Absence Procedures
A written note of explanation for any absence is required by law and is expected to be given to the teacher on the child's first day back after an absence. If the absence is known prior to the date, a letter of information would be appreciated.
Academic Performance
The academic programme is carefully selected and modified so as to remain in harmony with our philosophy.
The required standard to be achieved in the core curriculum areas at each year level is the same as that required by the WA Department of Education in association with national SDA Curriculum. This national curriculum meets the requirements of the Commonwealth government, as well as taking into account state requirements - ie of the Curriculum Council (WA).
Bus Operation
A bus service is operated, subject to need in certain areas. Inquiries regarding this service can be made by contacting the Bus Co-ordinator, Mr Andrew Jaeger. Alternately the school can assist you with your inquiries.
Bus Shed: 9293 5047
A service is presently provided by Transperth. Detail of routes and fares is available from any Transperth office or the Transport website at www.transperth.wa.gov.au
Discipline
The form of management and discipline used in this school is based on love and trust, and is designed to preserve the self-respect of all students. Guidelines for the implementation of disciplinary procedures are set out in the school's policy statement.
Homework
Children are expected to complete homework assignments set by the teacher. These assignments are designed to supplement the work done in class as well as assist in developing good work and study habits. If you have any queries regarding homework, please contact the teacher.
Library
The school operates a library facility. Children must use a library bag when borrowing. School library bags will be available from the office early in term one. A charge will be made for overdue or damaged books. The library is operated each Tuesday and Thursday. Students will be notified as to the day that they will borrow / return books. Parents may also borrow books from the library. Arrangements need to be made with the librarian.
Privacy
Personal student or parental information will not normally be passed out from the school without permission from the affected person/s. Exceptions will apply eg school dentist, school nurse, guidance officer, information required by Commonwealth or State Education departments.
Withdrawal of Students from School
The policy of the school regarding the withdrawal of students is that a minimum of one school term’s notice is required, otherwise fees for one term are required in lieu of notice.
Medical and Ambulance
In the event of an accident or emergency an ambulance will be called at the expense of the parents. We would therefore encourage all families to take out St John's Ambulance insurance cover. Please ensure that all medical details are filled out on the enrolment form. The school is serviced by the Education Department visiting nurse during the course of the year. Families will be contacted at the time.
It is important that the school is kept advised regarding a student’s medical condition if it is likely to impact on their performance at school in any way. Parents are also requested not to send sick children to school, as there are limited ways in which they can be cared for and, to limit the potential for infection of others.
Dental
Students are entitled to free dental service through the school dental service provided by the WA government. The dental therapy unit operating from Kalamunda Primary school, Heath Rd, Kalamunda (Ph 9293 2801) services our school.
Medication
School staff members have no authority to administer drugs to children. We would suggest that medications, in a measured dose, be enclosed with the child's lunch. Please contact the office for specific information.
Music
Music tuition is offered with private teachers using the school facilities. Tuition is available in piano and flute and a variety of other instruments. Fees are paid directly to the music teacher and are not included in the regular school fee accounts.
The school office is happy to connect families with the appropriate music teacher. Please contact the office for names / phone numbers.
School Choir
The school has two choirs, Junior and Senior. From time to time, requests are made for public performances. Parents are encouraged to support these occasions by transporting children to the various venues. Full uniform is required at these times - no optional uniforms to be worn.
In – Term Swimming Lessons
Swimming lessons are part of the school programme and are not optional. Parents will be made aware of the dates, times and other details as these are set. A fee will be charged and paid over the first three school terms. No refunds apply if the child is unable to participate for any reason.
Tuckshop
A tuckshop service is available and children should submit their orders for lunch, with the correct money, to the main office at the beginning of the day. Currently available Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Student Personal Belongings
It is essential that students and parents are very clear that any item brought by a student onto the property for their personal use must remain the student’s responsibility at all times. They personally are liable for loss or damage to such item/s.
